Who owns our time?

We are no longer the owners of “our” computers. In some cases – we did not notice – the apparatus is only on lease. Applications and items of software have a like of their own, controlled by an opaque logic that we cannot possibly master. The results can be disruptive: unwanted notifications, hard to revert defaults, and intrusive updates that block our activity for hours.
